Happy New Year

A warm welcome into 2013, here's a big cup of tea and a slice of your favourite cake to start you off properly and give you that incentive to get in the saddle and get some miles under your belt :-)

With the wettest year on record behind us, I'm sure many of you - like me - are hoping for a few dryer days to get out early on in 2013 and start re-building your fitness for the season ahead.  The final quarter of 2012 has been really disappointing for me mileage wise, however it's all about moving on and I plan to get out and get my fitness levels back up again.

Readership Surge

2012 has been a great year for the blog with it about to tick over the landmark of 500,000 visits, which is really surprising in that I only started this to share some thoughts with a few people.  It goes to demonstrate just how many people are into road cycling and also how many new cyclists are entering into the sport.

Win Tickets to the London 2013 Bike Show

To celebrate the 500K landmark, I've teamed up with Jaguar Sportbrake, to offer five readers a pair of tickets each to the London Bike Show at ExCel, London on the 17th - 20th January.  All you have to do is leave a comment either on Twitter on on the blog via the comment box, with your number one tip for a new road cyclist (please leave your e-mail address if leaving a comment via the blog so that I know how to contact you, this will not be added to any mailing list and will be deleted prior to publication on the site).

It can be anything from nutrition, bike choice, set-up, training, clothing, what bike to buy.  Over the next ten days I will give away the tickets to five randomly selected contributors, it's as easy as that.

Whatever your cycling goals for 2013, I hope you have a safe and enjoyable time doing it.

  1. Hi Phil, great and honest blog post, as always. My number one tip for a new road cyclist would be buy the bike with best frame you can afford (cheap components can be upgraded later on as they wear out) AND get a proper bike fit done (if I'd had a proper bike fit done when I started riding I wouldn't have suffered with knee pain and other aches and pains from poor positioning on the bike) Contact me via @velopixie on twitter Regards Mark AKA Velo Pixie
