Simon Richardson Update [Statement] (18/8/11)

Messages of support have continued to flood in for Simon this morning. The latest update is that he’s likely to go to theatre today for treatment of deep lacerations to his leg and an assessment of his back.  I spoke to his wife Amanda last night and she asked me to pass on the following message to all of Simon’s well-wishers.

“I’d like to thank everyone in the cycling community and other well-wishers for their messages of support for Simon. He will be heartened to know that people are extending their positive thoughts and encouragement to him during this difficult time.”

Simon has shown before that he has the enormous mental and physical strength needed to overcome challenges. He also has tremendous support not just from his family and friends but the cycling community, his sponsors and the wider community in Porthcawl, his home town.

For any media enquiries about Simon’s condition and progress, please contact Katie Colledge or Charles Tattersall on 0161 235 0300.

I’m keeping in touch with Amanda and will keep you all posted with updates on how he’s getting on.

Note to Press; Simon Richardson is a double-gold Paralympic cyclist.  On the track in Bejing 2008 he won the LC3/4 1km time trial and 3km individual pursuit. He also claimed a silver in the road time trial and assisted team mate Darren Kenny to victory in the road race.  Further details can be found on his Wikipedia page.
