Simon Richardson Update (26/8/11)

Day 9.  Simon still remains critical but stable.  Doctors this morning removed his ventilator for a short time to establish whether Simon was able to breathe independently this morning, however their conclusion was that his lung is not yet strong enough and the ventilator was re-established to help him breathe.  He remains sedated and according to his wife Amanda he is - "a bit more responsive."

This weekend sees residents of the UK enjoying a bank holiday and we'd like to continue to encourage everyone to send in their photo's of them riding in support of Simon and the #SIMONSTRONG campaign .  Please see here for further details on how you can get involved.

Note to Press; Simon Richardson is a double-gold Paralympic cyclist.  On the track in Bejing 2008 he won the LC3/4 1km time trial and 3km individual pursuit. He also claimed a silver in the road time trial and assisted team mate Darren Kenny to victory in the road race.  Further details can be found on his Wikipedia page.

  2. Well Phil, I attempted to ride in support of Simon yesterday whilst on my commute to work, however I had a run in with a slippery wooden bridge and ended up having an op to reduce a dislocated shoulder and fix my fractured humerus, bike knackered, helmet smashed etc etc. Still Pales into insignificance when I read your daily updates on Simon. It sounds like he is receiving the very best care, I truly hope he recovers well and shows us the inner strength he clearly has. Big love and best wishes to Simon and Amanda, be strong #simonstrong.
