Let's ride for #SIMONSTRONG

With Simon still critically ill in hospital; let us turn our attention to how we as the cycling community can continue to show support for this great bloke; battling back from a terrible hit and run whilst out training.

We all know what a dangerous place the road can be, primarily only due to the one per cent of drivers that see cyclists as an irritant.  It's these drivers that cause these horrendous accidents which not only wreck the life of the cyclist, but also those around them -  wives, mothers, fathers and children.

As you go out on your ride this weekend or over the next week, we'd like you to support safer riding and Simon Richardson MBE by printing out the document above (you can download it here), typing your name or your club name in on the template, taking a picture and either sending it to @roadphil with the #SIMONSTRONG hashtag or e-mailing it to philby34(at)gmail.com.

I'll be doing exactly that tomorrow morning.  I've decided to ride the return trip (100KM) to work and back in support of Simon, to show him we are all still thinking about him.

So, please join in.  Wherever you are in the world, whenever it is, let's see if we can amass a flickr full of images for Simon to return to when he gets well.

  1. Interesting action in LA - Cyclists turned up to observe trial after fatal hit & run wearing cycling jerseys (just enough to show they were cyclists without demeaning the dignity of the court and not looking ridiculous/extreme waddling around with clicking cleats and in shorts).
