Simon Richardson Update [23/8/11]

No change to Simons condition overnight; he remains critical but stable.  Surgeons have taken him into theatre this morning for some routine investigative work on his stomach to ensure that no further internal injury has been sustained, following the accident.

His bone breaks are beginning to heal and the medical team are satisfied that these are on track and making the necessary progress.

Could all well-wishers please not send anything to the ward.  Simon is on the Intensive Care Unit and due to infection control, no cards or gifts are allowed.  His wife Amanda expressed her continued thanks for the support from his friends near and far, plus those from the cycling community that have rallied behind Simon.

Will continue to update as and when further news arrives.

Note to Press; Simon Richardson is a double-gold Paralympic cyclist.  On the track in Bejing 2008 he won the LC3/4 1km time trial and 3km individual pursuit. He also claimed a silver in the road time trial and assisted team mate Darren Kenny to victory in the road race.  Further details can be found on his Wikipedia page.
