Simon Richardson Update (21/08/11)

No change in Simons official condition overnight; still critical but stable.  Speaking to Amanda his wife this morning, she did inform me that there have been "improvements in some of his vital signs," which is encouraging.

Meanwhile messages of support continue to arrive for Simon from the cycling community via Twitter, the web and messages of support received at the family home.

Magnus Backstedt, former Tour  de France stage winner and Paris-Roubaix Winner commented about Simon Richardson – “Simon is one of the nicest guys you’ll meet.  He is a dedicated professional, who has achieved so much after overcoming an horrific road accident in 2001.  For him to be faced with another significant accident recovery will present him with a big challenge, however Simon is mentally and physically very strong and has proved that he has what it takes to fight back from adversity.  My name will certainly be on the #SIMONSTRONG bike in support of Simon's fightback.”

Note to Press; Simon Richardson is a double-gold Paralympic cyclist.  On the track in Bejing 2008 he won the LC3/4 1km time trial and 3km individual pursuit. He also claimed a silver in the road time trial and assisted team mate Darren Kenny to victory in the road race.  Further details can be found on his Wikipedia page.  Further details about the #SIMONSTRONG bike can be found here.
